About
My Clients
Have you or a loved one been struggling with addiction? Do you often isolate or avoid others because you don’t want them to know, and are left feeling helpless, and exhausted? Addiction is a challenge that is not easy to overcome, and is nearly impossible to deal with alone. By reading this, you are taking the first step in committing to a healthier, more fulfilling life. If you are impacted by someone else’s addiction, you are taking a step toward gaining support, and a better understanding of addiction, as well as trying to figure out how to be supportive to your loved one without enabling harmful behaviors.
My Approach
I have extensive experience working with high-functioning individuals (often, professionals) with substance use and co-occurring mood disorders, as well as family members of those with addiction or severe mental illness. My approach is non-judgmental, psychodynamic and collaborative, though I incorporate a variety of therapeutic styles in my practice. We will work together in the therapeutic process to understand and change reoccurring behaviors in order to heal and grow.
My Background
I have always been passionate about helping people. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I earned my degree at Brooklyn College in 2010, and completed a post graduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the American Institute of Psychoanalysis. From there I worked in general mental health clinics, a methadone clinic for two years, and Rikers Island as a mental health clinician working with people with severe mental illness for three years. Currently I am a supervisor in a foster care preventive program. The skills and experience that I have gained from this work enabled me to pursue my dream of opening my own practice.
About Therapy
For me, therapy is about gaining a deeper understanding of patterns that don't seem to be working in order to live more authentically. I am empathetic, and easy to talk to. I will work with you to help to understand and change behavior patterns that may be hindering you from living your full potential.
